Hold and Win
Hold and Win is a free-to-play lock-and-respin slot with no money on the line. Play it straight and the nine lines pay like any machine. Land six gold chips in a single spin and the game changes: those chips lock where they sit, you get three respins, and every new chip that drops resets you back to three. Fill all fifteen squares and the Grand is yours. Start with 500 practice chips, build to a grand to clear the level, and chase the Gold Jacket. Spin her below, then read on for how the hold and win round works.

How to play Hold and Win
The base game is the simple part. Pick your bet, hit spin, and five reels fill three rows. Nine fixed lines run across that grid, and matching symbols from the leftmost reel pay along them. Chip himself is the top symbol at sixty times your bet for five in a row, then Yoli, the Corvette, Frank and the Crown Royal. About one spin in four pays something.
The gold chips are different. They never pay a line on their own, and they are the only thing you are really watching for. Count them as the reels stop, because six gold chips in one spin is what you want.
The hold and win round
Six chips and everything stops. Each one locks in place and turns over a value, anywhere from one times your bet up to fifteen, and you get three respins. Only the empty squares spin now. If a new chip lands it locks too, and the respins go straight back to three. That is the whole hook: a round can run for a dozen respins as long as the chips keep coming, and it only ends when three go by with nothing new.
Some chips carry a jackpot tag instead of a plain value. Mini pays ten times your bet, Minor pays twenty five, and Major pays sixty. Fill every one of the fifteen squares and the Grand pays five hundred times your bet, which on a fifty chip spin is twenty five thousand practice chips. It is rare. That is rather the point.
The round arrives roughly once every hundred spins, so most of your session is the base game and the counting. When it does land, it is worth about fifty times your bet on average, and the swings around that average are enormous.
Why this format took over
Hold and win is the format that ate the casino floor over the past decade, and the reason is the respin counter. An ordinary slot resolves in two seconds and tells you nothing on the way. This one puts a number on the screen, takes it away one respin at a time, and hands it back the moment a chip lands. You are not waiting for a result, you are watching a clock you can reset. That is a very different feeling, and it is why the machines with the locking coins have the queues.
Play money only here, of course. No wagering, no deposits, nothing to lose but the practice chips. If you want the real thing, read our reviews first and check what is legal where you live.
